Ah, sounds like ours. Scoot to the choice spots and look up like "where will you be sleeping, then?" We have to remind them that we get first choice.
Even then, I'm not always sure they believe it.

Usually they lie at the bottom of the bed; but occasionally Zano decides that he wants my pillow. Of course if I push him off he waits until I go to sleep. It
isn't funny waking up to find you have difficulty breathing because a fat ball of fluff has decided that your chest is quite comfortable.
Growing old gracefully is O.K. but growing old disgracefully is much more fun.

We have one, named Sterling, who weighs somewhere around 20 pounds. When he climbs on my chest at night, I definitely notice it.

Ouch ! I bet you do.
I am constantly amazed at the intelligence of cats. I cannot understand people who just have them as 'pets' and do not try to know them as indeviduals with different characters and humours.

Cats begin developing personalities almost as soon as they get their eyes open, and an adult cat is a basket of idiosyncrasies.

One of mine took the opportunity to stay out all night on several occasions while I was gone.

While "mom's" away, the cat will play.

Hasn't stayed out since I got back so I think that applies.

I doubt it. She's more likely to have been avoiding the young one who can be a pest.

At least it seems she trusts me to deter said pest for her now I'm home.

I brought a laser toy back for her. She's fascinated.

We've not tried one of those. They do fine with jingle balls ans such that don't require direct involvement.

My cats seem to ignore the jingle mice and balls. They play with catnip things, of course. And they are quite fascinated by laser pointers.

Ours react to a jingling ball almost as readily as they react to a can being opened.

Mine ignore most of them and neither will touch anything with catnip in it.

Some cats do not react to catnip. I think I saw one time where that's genetic, so it would make sense.
